Claude Young

German producer and DJ, Marcel Dettmann takes the helm for the 77th part of the fabric mix series.

Growing up in Fürstenwalde in the former German Democratic Republic, Dettmann has been influenced by various music styles since he was a child. His grandmother worked as a music teacher and inspired Marcel and his family to play instruments. In addition the radio at Marcel ́s home was always on if there was already no record playing.

Little by little he discovered the likes of Depeche Mode,The Cure or DAF, then later Detroit techno and Chicago house. As they only had a record player at home he obviously just bought vinyls. His passion led him to start recording mix tapes for himself and his friends, and he also began to organise parties in his hometown. When school and apprenticeships didn’t seem to work out he ran a small record store in the house of his mother. It was with this job that he financed the beginning of his own elaborate record collection.

Dettmann was DJing at the club Ostgut from the late 90s - the forerunner to Berghain. For a decade he’s been a resident DJ of the world renowned club in Berlin. Even though Marcel is involved with several labels such as Ostgut Ton, for the fabric mix he prefered to pick mostly unreleased material from his own imprint, Marcel Dettmann Recordings (MDR).

“I mixed it at home with 2 CD players, as most of the tracks are not available on vinyl yet.The mix is mostly based on unreleased MDR demo tracks, which I’ve carried around with me for the last few years. For example the ROD track, I’ve had this one for at least 3 years. Now it is finally a good opportunity to release those tracks and they will all come out on MDR.” - Marcel Dettmann

Marcel chose to incorporate a variety of techno sounds in this mix – including tracks from fellow MDR artists Answer Code Request and Norman Nodge, to younger names in the industry that he's recruited for his label, such as Wincent Kunth, and a number of his own remixes, tied together by releases by the likes of Terence Fixmer and Robert Hood’s Monobox. fabric 77 is a well-balanced snapshot of current techno in a master’s hands. It may surprise some listeners with its vibrancy, delicacy and range that reaches far beyond the sound you would expect in a dark sweaty club at 6am. It’s a perfect personal reflection of Marcel’s love of all music and techno in particular.

Nicole Moudaber Announces North American Summer Tour
+ Forthcoming "Rooted" Single on Drumcode Records [June 23]

"Nicole Moudaber's deep, dark & percussive approach to
techno has heads turning and hips swaying..." - DJ Times
Nicole Moudaber is all guns blazing with the announcement of her imminent summer tour throughout North American. After the success of her recent 'Bittersweet' EP [Drumcode], still storming the techno charts with "I Know Where I've Been" sitting comfortably in the Beatport Top 10, Drumcode label boss, Adam Beyer asked her to include "Rooted" on A Sides Volume II Part 2. Buzzing from the success of her recently launched In the MOOD radio show, which showcases live sets, studio mixes and interviews with her DJ friends and family, the show is currently broadcasting in 20 countries worldwide to approximately 2 million listeners since its launch in April. Now, Moudaber will continue to bring her sultry MOOD brand to Las Vegas, Boston, Toronto, Ottawa, Atlanta, Miami and New York during the months of June and July.
With summer 2014 upon us, Drumcode is still releasing superb tracks that have completely taken over the charts. After the success of the first A-sides compilation in 2012, Beyer has decided its time to release another [June 23] with Moudaber's highly anticipated single, "Rooted" as one of the top notch tracks on the album. Combining both old and new talents, Drumcode has come up with something unique and distinctive to make this two-part compilation something extra special.

Following the hype of Moudaber's last release entitled "See You Next Tuesday" with Carl Cox on her own imprint, MOOD Records, expect upcoming releases from Kasbah Zoo and OniWax with their 'New Era' EP out on June 23 and 'Dance For Me' EP by The Junkies on July 21. Additionally, MOOD Records will see a new EP from Joel Mull and original productions from label head Moudaber herself with remixes from Gary Beck, Guti, Julian Jeweil, Mark Reeve, Robert Dietz and Tom Peters over the next few months. Don't miss Moudaber as she continues her techno takeover, one city at a time and stay tuned for the next edition of In the MOOD radio!

1 in every 5 teens in the US has some sort of hearing loss and the problem is only worsening as concerts get bigger and louder. EDMX has aken their festival based app to the next level by pairing with molded earplug maker EarPeace proving that they are more than just an app for festival particpation. In celebration of their partnership, EarPeace and EDMX are giving away 10 free sets of Ear Peace earplugs to one lucky winner. All you have to do is create a profile with EDMX and you will be entered to win the contest.
For EDMX, This move towards ear health was largely inspired by the founder, Scott Richmond's struggle with the impact of damaged hearing - tinnitus (ear ringing) and hyperacusis (sensitivity to sound). "For myself, one night I walked out of a club, my ears were ringing, and they never stopped from that day forward," says Scott, regarding the unpredictability of  the onset of these type of ear conditions. "I don't want anyone to have to go through that. Therefore, it's an important part of EDMX's mission to be a platform to educate the EDM fan about taking care of their ears. Teaming up with Ear Peace is a natural extension of that."
Available now, festival goers can purchase the discreet and sleek EarPeace earbuds directly through the EDMX app. EarPeace will improve anyone's festival experience. You will feel better and party longer when you use EarPeace.  Their high fidelity hearing protection turns down the volume without affecting sound quality. The sound quality is so good you'll be able to have conversations with your friends with the plugs in. Be smart and dance longer and feel better with EarPeace.

"Our mission is to fundamentally change the way people consider their hearing health, it's importance and options to protect it.  Most people don't wear ear plugs because they equate them with foam ear plugs.  They also don't know how vulnerable their hearing actually is.  Now that comfortable, discreet and affordable high fidelity hearing protection is available we have the opportunity to give music fans something they will be willing to actually use. "
Jay Clark // CEO & Founder of EarPeace

Anja Schneider brings mobilee to off-Sonar and releases new 'Dubmission' EP

Anja Schneider and her mobilee records imprint are set for a massive month, with their busiest off-Sonar week to date, while the label head drops an inspiring new EP at the end of May.

Both artist and label will be playing four key dates throughout the week in Barcelona, continuing the special relationship they've shared stretching back to their first party at Hotel Silken Diagonal in 2007 when mobilee was the first crew to stage a rooftop party of that nature and set the scene for what would become a hallmark element of the off-Sonar experience.

Over the years everyone from Claude Vonstroke to Guy Gerber and Maya Jane Coles have popped up at the parties alongside the label's quality-driven stable of artists, making the invite-only parties the most sough-after ticket at off-Sonar and galvanizing a strong bond between the Berlin label and the Catalan capital.

This year sees the label mix up club, pool party and then finally rooftop for four straight days of first-rate parties. The fun begins with Mobilee & Sebo K's Scenario, when Âme, D'Julz and William Kouam Djoko join the label's finest on Wednesday 11 June.

Thursday sees the mobilee crew team up with Fact Music Pool Series and break out into the sunshine for a 15-hour party, with label mates Matthias Tanzman, Andrea Oliva joining a lengthy list of first-rate artists. Tickets sold out almost three months prior to the event, but for those who missed out mobilee will be releasing a limited number on the door from 21:00.

On Friday and Saturday mobilee will return to their spiritual home of the Hotel Silken Diagonal and the site of so many unforgettable memories over they years, for back-to-back rooftop parties. The crew will be extending the fun with special sessions at Diagonal locked for 13 July, 10 Aug, 23 Aug and 11 Seplater this year.

Stepping aside from label duties and joining her female contemporaries for a hugely anticipated event in conjunction with Fact, Anja Schneider will play Miss Kitten and The Girls on Friday 13 Junealongside Maya Jane Coles, Heidi and Monika Kruse and more.

Before all the action drops in Barcelona however, the label head will release her hotly tipped'Dubmission'EP, a three-track package that showcases the talented artist as you've never heard her before.

The versatile release encompasses the title track 'Dubmission' dedicated to the weekly nights at the storied E-Werk nightclub in 1990s Berlin, where Kid Paul powered the party, the funky low end swagger of 'Can You Feel' featuring Parsifal Marin of Brussels Pony Club on vocals that was premiered by Heidi during her BBC Radio 1 residency on 8 May, and the hypnotic house cut 'Revolution'.

In the MOOD will debut Wednesday, April 30 on terrestrial and digital stations worldwide, with an initial audience of over 1.5 million thanks to powerful broadcast launch partners SLAM FM in the Netherlands, Radio S 95.7 in Turkey, Big City Beats in Germany, and Kiss FM in Melbourne, Australia, plus stations in Cyprus, Czech Republic, Nicaragua, Portugal, Switzerland, and the  Ukraine, with more to be announced soon.

Hosted by Nicole as she travels from nightclub to studio to festival all over the world, In the MOOD will be free from musical constraints, with Nicole exploring a variety of styles from week to week – including but not limited to her beloved techno. With live studio mixes and interviews with her DJ friends and family, this will be a one-stop shop to get fans In the MOODfor the weekend.

“I’ve wanted to do a radio show for ages and am privileged to now have the opportunity,” says Moudaber. “In the MOOD will allow me to share the music I’m feeling right away, whether it’s new tracks on MOOD, sets from my gigs worldwide, or an entirely new exploration.”

In the MOOD joins Nicole’s MOOD Records label and In the MOOD events series in the growing MOOD umbrella. Episode 1 features Nicole sharing her favorite tracks new and classic, plus recollections from her recent experience at U.S. super-festival Coachella, and tweets and notes from fans via the hashtag #IntheMOOD.

Nicole has had a breathtaking 2014 thus far, with signature releases and sold-out events. Her EP ‘One Day Later’ on Carl Cox’s Intec label reaching No. 1 on the Beatport techno release chart. The follow-up, a collaboration with Cox called ‘See You Next Tuesday’ for her own MOOD Records, dropped to critical acclaim in mid-April. MOOD Records dropped EPs from burgeoning stars Nathan Barato and Etai Tarazi. Add Nicole’s sold-out ‘In the MOOD’ takeovers at NYC’s Output and at The Raleigh Hotel pool during Miami Music Week, and it’s evident that the Queen’s reign has just begun.
