About Flashback Cruise

Flashback Cruise is the only experience-focused dance music, food and comedy event on water. The three-night cruise will entertain guests with original live acts from some of the greatest DJs and performers in the genres of disco, house music, freestyle and techno from the late '70s, '80s, and '90s.

Flashback Cruise was created by Ryan Morales, a native New Yorker, audio engineer, and member of BMI. Ryan has been DJing since 1989. He was a resident DJ at New York's notorious Limelight while still a teenager, and his production credits include remixes for major artists like Bon Jovi. He has played at some of the largest music festivals in the world including Ultra, and at some of the biggest clubs in New York and Miami. Ryan launched Flashback Cruise in response to the negative changes in the nightlife industry. "I wanted to go back to good old days, when you weren't just a dollar bill to some club owner."

MOOG MUSIC ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR MOOGFEST AS A BIENNIAL EVENT

For Immediate Release: July 23, 2014
Today, Moog Music announces that Moogfest will be biennial, with the next event scheduled for 2016.

Moogfest 2014 was a reboot of the festival, with much of the planning and execution taking place inside the Moog headquarters, just upstairs from where the synthesizers are designed and built by hand. Engineering a production of this scale is a process that can’t be mass-produced, much like Moog synthesizers themselves.

The decision to produce Moogfest biennially is in an effort to maintain the authenticity of the event, as well as the financial and spiritual health of Moog Music and its employees, whose primary focus will always be designing and building synthesizers.

“Moogfest 2014 was a proof of concept so we could experiment with a new business, a unique format, and a new creative direction,” says Mike Adams, Moog Music Inc. President & CEO. “Producing Moogfest every other year allows us to retain the high level of innovative programming as well as the originality and independence we established in 2014.”

This new iteration of Moogfest, with Moog Music Inc. at the helm, brought thousands of musicians, inventors, engineers, futurists, ethicists, visual artists and their fans together to discuss the future of technology and creativity. It established a space for conversation and collaboration while bringing visibility to North Carolina as an international hub of new ideas. Musical performers included legends like Kraftwerk, Keith Emerson, Nile Rogers and Giorgio Moroder alongside future and current stars like M.I.A., Flying Lotus, Dan Deacon, and Factory Floor.

“This future-forward version of Moogfest is in its infancy,” says Emmy Parker, Brand Director of Moogfest and Moog. “It will take some time for it to grow, but it’s clear that people want an unadulterated ideas-based festival that combines new art, music and technology. Moogfest is a personification of the Moog ethos and we’re honored to dedicate a full two years for curating each festival, with a sustainable, long-term plan for maintaining this platform for all those who share our passion.”

As a pioneer in electronic music and the inventor of the Moog synthesizer, Bob Moog was an innovator who introduced the world to the sound of the future. Moogfest, a five-day synthesis of music, technology and art, held April 23-27 in Asheville, N.C., brought an equal ferocity of spirit to the festival that bears his name.

MEDIA ACCOLADES

"Moogfest, in its mom-and-pop technosophy and its insistence on immersive experiences in small, comfortable spaces, might have gotten something exactly right.” - New York Times

"Moogfest was once a more traditional festival, but it metamorphosed this year into a celebration of art, science, music and technology -- TED filtered through a distortion pedal.” - Huffington Post

“Like Austin, Asheville is becoming famous for its cultural event Moogfest.” - The Guardian

It’s a tiny operation, but they’ve produced kind of an amazing festival...” - NY Times Popcast

“The city felt abuzz with a geeky curiosity and excitement.” - Billboard
“Anyone expecting the fest lineup to consist of a bunch of Emerson, Lake & Palmer knockoffs sorely underestimates what Moogfest has become….The range of performers—Dan Deacon, ADULT., El-P, Deerhunter's Bradford Cox and many more—shows you just how far the Moog brand has come in its 50-year history.” - Time Out NY

“This annual festival–which is dedicated to the synthesis of technology, art, and music and honors the legacy of music visionary Dr. Robert Moog–is in a league of its own and girded by a lofty mission: “[to chart] the course for a future of unknown sight and sound.” - National Geographic
“And make no mistake, this is not one big gear advertisement—the artists who play Moogfest are selected for their forward-thinking creativity, reflecting Bob Moog’s innovative spirit back in the day. Moogfest’s cherries on top are their label showcases and expanded art and music technology installations." - Complex

"Moogfest has added some eclectic firepower to its already impressive lineup." - Rolling Stone

"Moogfest organizers echo the extra-education sentiment, as they've strived to build a lineup of sessions, workshops and film screenings that will thrill just as much as the musicians." - Mashable
“It’s an electronic wet dream… The lineup for Moogfest is so unique that it has no true competition.”
- Consequence of Sound
“At Moogfest's Modular Marketplace, attendees at the electronic music festival in Asheville got to browse some of the best indie and homebrew analog and digital synthesizers.” - Vice/ Motherboard
“Although Moogfest has been around for a few years in various incarnations, it found its niche this April in a lineup that included headliners the Pet Shop Boys, Giorgio Moroder, Kraftwerk, M.I.A. and Nile Rodgers (with CHIC).” - Huffington Post
“Moogfest takes place in Asheville, North Carolina and celebrates the legacy of the man who turned electricity into music, starting with theremins to voltage-controlled analog synthesizers that have been used by everyone from The Beatles to prog rock bands and experimental artists.”- Cool Hunting

BALANCE 025: DANNY TENAGLIA
+ NORTH AMERICA SUMMER 2014 TOUR DATES
(Balance Music/North American Release Date: September 16)

Few DJs have been so consistently revered as Danny Tenaglia. The fact that he’s never been out of favor with the house and techno fraternity is testament to what a talented and passionate selector he remains to this day, some 30 years since he began DJ’ing in his beloved Brooklyn, NYC. From those early years through the birth of tribal and progressive house through to his 4/4 eclecticism and more recent techno-focused output, he’s always remained in that esteemed and elite category of ‘a DJ’s DJ’. Honoring Balance with his first compilation in six years and adding to a body of mixes that includes some indisputable classics, Tenaglia continues the custom of bringing something truly special and unique to the critically acclaimed Australian series.
It’s been six years since the release of his last compilation - a long time in anyone’s book. He puts it down to nothing more than the difficulties of juggling DJ’ing and producing - and when Balance came knocking, it was simply a case of timing and reputation. “When I was asked to do this for Balance, I did some research and felt a connection. Balance is a ‘quality, not quantity’ record label and I already respected all of the artists on their roster and thought it would be a great outlet for me to also share a bit of my journeys with people who passionately love dance music. I also appreciated the details that they put into each release.” Accordingly, he has meticulously re-edited almost every track on this engrossing double CD to imbue his own subtle level of extra detail into the proceedings, choosing to present his vision of the (largely) contemporary techno sound that has found him in such good fettle at places like Berghain and his current hometown’s key club, Output.
Tenaglia is still very much a traditionalist when it comes to the compilation format. “I still strongly believe that nothing will ever compare to the feeling you get when you pick up a record or disc, place it in your player, sit back and listen while holding on to the cover and reading the liner notes and looking at the photos” he says. “It takes people’s minds closer to what the true spirit and nature of the project is really all about. I also believe that is extremely important to avid fans and collectors to know as much info as possible regarding each track and who else may have been involved in the process. This is sadly missing from digital downloads. You almost never get to know anymore who the musicians, singers, engineers, and other important people involved are and way too often today the artist and remixers on many releases hog all the credit, and it's just not fair. I never believed in that. When you give proper credit you receive proper credit.”
TRAKTOR has helped breathe new life into the art of DJ’ing for him, and its presence is clearly woven into this compilation’s DNA in the most creative of fashions. “TRAKTOR has me working harder than ever because now I take many of my favorite classics and find ways to blend them in with much of the new music I love today, which is basically what appears on this CD.” Citing the bursting of the minimal bubble as a turning point for techno, he says the genre’s less frenetic focus has likewise been a huge influence on him. “I could've never predicted this but I do feel that techno is most definitely better than ever. That’s mainly because the tempo has finally gotten below 130 BPM. This made techno more soulful, more swingin’, more bouncy and made you feel it like you never could've felt it at near 140 BPM.” Indeed, on this Balance mix, you’ll find a slew of cuts slowed down from 130 BPM and beyond to suit his chuggier pace.
Tenaglia wastes no time in making his desires known, the dramatic bass tones and seductive chimes of 04LM "Tragicaller"making for a commanding opener. The mood builds with the soft melodies of Reboot "Banging Ear Drums," rhythm gaining weight until the gargantuan riffs of MRI "Es Geht Um Mehr" and Dosem’s anthemic rework of Hot Since 82 slice through mix. Things take a turn for the weirder as bugged out technoid grooves take center stage, Alex Under’s hard jacking stabs and Sanys’ atonal synth grunts leading us through darkness towards the teasing builds of Nicole Moudaber’s rolling "Movin’ On." He lets a little of his tribal heritage shine through with a touch of Michel Cleis’ Basement Jaxx re-rub, before Thomas Schumacher’s twanging acid and diva vocals leads us towards a dubbed-out closer.
His second disc again teases tribalism in its early stages, finding the sweet spot between those infectious rhythms and the driving energy of techno, his re-editing magic now in full effect as the re-warped vocals of The Yellowheads "Red Light District" weave around a galloping groove and Antigone’s metallic refrains get some auxiliary support in the rhythm section. The ethereal tones and chattering breakbeats of Dax J "Dreamscape" appear like a beacon of light alongside these moodier textures, as does Laurent Garnier’s triumphant remix of Gregor Tresher’s "Nightcolors." These moments of euphoria are tantalizingly fleeting though, as things get tripped out again through mind-bending snippets of Herva and 2 AM/FM, and through the deep techno of Craig McWhinney. It’s a brutal finale, leading through Jonas Kopp’s incessant thumping, Sin Sin’s heady energy and Exploit "UFO" pounding us into submission.
The tougher vibe embodied in this compilation may come as an initial shock to some Tenaglia fans, but it’s as oozing with charisma, atmosphere, sleaze, drama, emotion, tension and energy as anything he’s ever done. Repeated listens reveal hidden details, and it’s inspiring to hear someone who has been doing their thing for so long continuing to embrace the cutting edge while still weaving in lesser-known gems from the past.

KRAKE FESTIVAL 2014
For 2014 the Krake Festival is coming up with a totally new set up. For the main event on saturday we cooperate with the Urban Spree Gallery, which is located next to the Suicide Circus and combine their areal with that of Suicide Circus to offer you a massive festival place to wander around between several floors full with music and arts. A thing like this offered in the centre of the city is extraordinary and will make this year's edition an unforgettable event. For now, here is a rough outline of the festival as a whole. More details to follow. Stay tuned!
KRAKE is an annual Berlin based festival for challenging electronic music. Krake means octopus and the festival is organised in a comparable way: reaching out to selected locations during one week presenting the best in electronic music, whatever style it is. The festival is not huge, not expensive, does not have big sponsoring deals or four different colour area passes.
It’s just a good and so far successful try to bring back the focus on artists who dare to step off the beaten tracks.
A festival for music lovers.

KRAKE FESTIVAL DAY I: OPENING
Urban Spree Gallery // doors open: 20:00 // cost: 12€ Advance, 15€ Ticket Box
We open the festival with an arty night, presenting live performances of outstanding artists. The Urban Spree Gallery is an amazing venue, combining industrial aesthetics with a sweet, personal DIY flair, perfect for our opening.
TRANSFORMA are a video collective mostly known for their work for Apparat but also for Deutsche Theater and many others. They mostly work with real footage of mostly natural materials that they produce and project in real time. For Krake they cooperate with NACKT, a live music performer of rarely seen quality, who will improvise on the grand piano plus effects and other instruments to the morbid pictures that Transforma produce.
THE NEST are a group of musicians from Cologne and Berlin consisting of members of Bohren & Der Club Of Gore, Desmond Denker and Tannhäuser Sterben & Das Tod. "Highly minimal and with due attention to space and atmosphere, 'Music For Drivers' is poised with a sharp tension between contrasting organic and mechanical sound sources; field recordings lend an unpredictability and sense of atmospheric breadth while their patiently attuned playing paints the space between with ethereal, otherworldly strokes of synthesizer, saxophone and electronics, constantly morphing between moods which are never quite just dark and light, maybe best described in terms of psychedelic, hallucinatory light shows." said Boomkat about their first album. We are awaiting their performance following their second album released in june 2014 on Album Label.

Third live act of the night KHAN takes the audience into a totally different direction. A nun seeking enlightenment. Khan as a male hustler including his own phone sex line on 1-900 Get-Khan. His pop fueled live shows often playing with gender roles are sought after for a reason.

As a little extra the robots taking part in the TERMINATOR TOURNAMENT on saturday will be showing off on the robot catwalk so you know which one to bet on!

Both labels stand for a daring approach to electronic music, Mindwaves Music focussing on playful electronica and IDM, Crazy Language on more abstract tunes. Combined with a small proper Killekill line up, and a reading of club related stories of selected contemporary German authors this night will cross it all over from intellectuality to pure dancefloor madness.

KRAKE FESTIVAL DAY IV
Suicide Circus & Urban Spree // doors open: 22:00 // cost: tba // cost: 15€ advance, 18€ ticket box
The saturday night will be a fourdimensional blast full with great music, outstanding visual art and everything that goes in between categories.
On the Urban Spree floor we have our very special of this year's edition going, the TERMINATOR TOURNAMENT, the robot battle of the century. Science fiction now!
Raging combat machines built by low tech robot tinkerers meet in the ultimate battle at the fighting arena during the Krake Festival. The audience bets which robot will be the last survivor, and which ones will bleed all electrons out of their wires. The coolest fighting style and the most sophisticated way of dying are also judged and rewarded by a jury, which is recruited ad hoc at the spot. Come and wittness the bomb - astic show!
This spectacle will be accompanied by the biggest synth nerds Berlin has to offer: The TRANSISTORS OF MERCY will blwo your mind with the meters and meters of synths they will bring to jam on FOR HOURS!
On the Suicide Club Floor we present a fine selection in electro. DMX KREW with his hilarious live show using drum machines, synths and mic shall is a must, OVUCA from Aphex Twin's label Rephlex and FELIX KUBIN with his dadaist Kraftwerk-influenced electro are as well. Killer!
The Urban Spree Concert Room will be hosted by a new outstanding label from Athens, Modal Analysis, presenting their label artists YVES DE MEY (part of SENDAI with Peter van Hoesen), KONDAKTOR, ANFS and 3.14 alongside a mindblowing and recently heavily acclaimed special guest which can not be named yet due to Berlin club politics.
The qualities of the Suicide Open Air Floor are still to be discovered. But besides all things mentioned above there will be a million of things happening on this huge areal, including dance performers, installtaions and an octopus food stand.

German producer and DJ, Marcel Dettmann takes the helm for the 77th part of the fabric mix series.

Growing up in Fürstenwalde in the former German Democratic Republic, Dettmann has been influenced by various music styles since he was a child. His grandmother worked as a music teacher and inspired Marcel and his family to play instruments. In addition the radio at Marcel ́s home was always on if there was already no record playing.

Little by little he discovered the likes of Depeche Mode,The Cure or DAF, then later Detroit techno and Chicago house. As they only had a record player at home he obviously just bought vinyls. His passion led him to start recording mix tapes for himself and his friends, and he also began to organise parties in his hometown. When school and apprenticeships didn’t seem to work out he ran a small record store in the house of his mother. It was with this job that he financed the beginning of his own elaborate record collection.

Dettmann was DJing at the club Ostgut from the late 90s - the forerunner to Berghain. For a decade he’s been a resident DJ of the world renowned club in Berlin. Even though Marcel is involved with several labels such as Ostgut Ton, for the fabric mix he prefered to pick mostly unreleased material from his own imprint, Marcel Dettmann Recordings (MDR).

“I mixed it at home with 2 CD players, as most of the tracks are not available on vinyl yet.The mix is mostly based on unreleased MDR demo tracks, which I’ve carried around with me for the last few years. For example the ROD track, I’ve had this one for at least 3 years. Now it is finally a good opportunity to release those tracks and they will all come out on MDR.” - Marcel Dettmann

Marcel chose to incorporate a variety of techno sounds in this mix – including tracks from fellow MDR artists Answer Code Request and Norman Nodge, to younger names in the industry that he's recruited for his label, such as Wincent Kunth, and a number of his own remixes, tied together by releases by the likes of Terence Fixmer and Robert Hood’s Monobox. fabric 77 is a well-balanced snapshot of current techno in a master’s hands. It may surprise some listeners with its vibrancy, delicacy and range that reaches far beyond the sound you would expect in a dark sweaty club at 6am. It’s a perfect personal reflection of Marcel’s love of all music and techno in particular.

Nicole Moudaber Announces North American Summer Tour
+ Forthcoming "Rooted" Single on Drumcode Records [June 23]

"Nicole Moudaber's deep, dark & percussive approach to
techno has heads turning and hips swaying..." - DJ Times
Nicole Moudaber is all guns blazing with the announcement of her imminent summer tour throughout North American. After the success of her recent 'Bittersweet' EP [Drumcode], still storming the techno charts with "I Know Where I've Been" sitting comfortably in the Beatport Top 10, Drumcode label boss, Adam Beyer asked her to include "Rooted" on A Sides Volume II Part 2. Buzzing from the success of her recently launched In the MOOD radio show, which showcases live sets, studio mixes and interviews with her DJ friends and family, the show is currently broadcasting in 20 countries worldwide to approximately 2 million listeners since its launch in April. Now, Moudaber will continue to bring her sultry MOOD brand to Las Vegas, Boston, Toronto, Ottawa, Atlanta, Miami and New York during the months of June and July.
With summer 2014 upon us, Drumcode is still releasing superb tracks that have completely taken over the charts. After the success of the first A-sides compilation in 2012, Beyer has decided its time to release another [June 23] with Moudaber's highly anticipated single, "Rooted" as one of the top notch tracks on the album. Combining both old and new talents, Drumcode has come up with something unique and distinctive to make this two-part compilation something extra special.

Following the hype of Moudaber's last release entitled "See You Next Tuesday" with Carl Cox on her own imprint, MOOD Records, expect upcoming releases from Kasbah Zoo and OniWax with their 'New Era' EP out on June 23 and 'Dance For Me' EP by The Junkies on July 21. Additionally, MOOD Records will see a new EP from Joel Mull and original productions from label head Moudaber herself with remixes from Gary Beck, Guti, Julian Jeweil, Mark Reeve, Robert Dietz and Tom Peters over the next few months. Don't miss Moudaber as she continues her techno takeover, one city at a time and stay tuned for the next edition of In the MOOD radio!
