PRESS RELEASE

April 7th 2014, Amsterdam

New techno label ‘Rhythm Inverted’ for up and coming techno talents launched by Tom Hades

On Monday the 7th of April a brand new label will hit the charts under the name Rhythm Inverted. This digital sub label will be the younger brother of Tom’s parent label Rhythm Converted.  A selection of new and established talents get an opportunity to release their first tracks in the musical family of Rhythm Converted. It’s up to Mintech and Q’hey to kick off the first release with their ‘Borderline’ EP.

Tom Hades about Rhythm Inverted: “I have created this sub label due to all the great promo’s that I receive from producers who still need some time to grow in their productions. I want to generate exposure for them so that they can receive feedback from other artists which will help them to grow further in their music career. Rhythm Inverted will be the portal to the big audience and a fundament to release on Rhythm Converted in the future when the productions are stronger. ”
The first release on Rhythm Inverted is the 4-track EP ‘Borderline’. A collaboration by the Napolitan Mintech and Japanese legend Q’hey. Italy’s force meets Japan’s intelligence and the result is simply amazing, leading to the creation of four techno weapons that can fit to any set time on any dance floor.

Mintech about the upcoming release: “The songs are really suited for today’s dance floors. A fat groove with synth electronics accompanied by some raw percussions and fresh vocals. It has been produced for the love and passion that we both have for our techno scenes, all melted in 2 styles: Made in Italy & Japan.”

Q’hey looks back on the collaboration: “It felt easy and difficult. You don't need to do everything by yourself, but you have to think about what the other one is thinking. Producing an original or remix is easier because you just can do what you want. Collaboration is conversation.”

Mintech & Q’hey’s ‘Borderline EP’ is out now. Available at your favorite digital retailer and streamable on Spotify and Deezer.

Somewhere In... begins a quarterly residency in NYC, with the first date being an official Movement pre-party.

:: About Verboten ::

Brooklyn-based nightlife entrepreneurs Verboten [German for 'forbidden'] have been shaping the NYC clubbing landscape and beyond for over 12 years and have recently opened their purpose-built venue for nightlife, music and arts in the heart of Williamsburg: Verboten

Beguiling, bewitching, bewildering; Guy Gerber is a man of many talents and tropes, not least his inimitable ability to walk a musical line that seamlessly encompasses melancholy and euphoria.

The Israeli DJ and producer today announced a new exclusive residency at MARQUEE New York. The first show of his quarterly residency will feature Gerber playing an extended set with no opening or closing DJs.

In classic Gerber fashion nothing will be straightforward or predictable with themes and production changing for each show. The theme for the opening night party on Friday, April 18, is sure to surprise.

Whether it was turning in a revered fabric mix CD inspired by a break-up, challenging Diddy to work with him on the mysterious underground dance project ’11-11’ or imbuing dancefloors with a real sense of emotion at a time when commercialism seems to be the dominant driving force, traversing a path as an outlier is one Gerber seems most comfortable walking.

Last season in Ibiza Gerber took on the challenge of inverting the bland commercial-orientated direction of EDM, bringing the likes of Nicolas Jaar, Benoit & Sergio, Chromatics, John Talabot, Four Tet and more to Pacha, during his summer long residency. Disruptive, dark and definitely divisive, Gerber’s Wisdom Of the Glove residency became a summer long talking point that even the New York Times picked up on.

Since the Ibiza season finished Gerber turned in one of the best-received Essential Mixes of 2013, been confirmed for Coachella 2014, was named Resident Advisor’s #4 live act in the world, been busy in the studio on ’11-11’ and found time to launch his new project, Rumors. Like any good rumor, facts are scarce on his new label, all that has been confirmed thus far is that the first release will see Gerber collaborate with his comrade-in-arms, Dixon.

About Marquee
To create this residency, Gerber is collaborating with Marquee on their weekly Friday night dance party which has featured some of the world's best underground artists every week since the landmark club re-opened in January 2013. Curated by residents Sleepy & Boo, Fridays are all about cutting edge DJs, playing before a rapt audience of music-lovers, presented in Marquee's unparalleled audio and visual environment. The club's pristine Funktion One sound system, floor-to-ceiling LED walls, custom-designed lights, and dramatic open interior space offers the perfect tableau for Gerber to present his unique musical and artistic vision.

Verboten Heralds Brooklyn Renaissance With New Nightclub
Music and Arts Venue to Open in the Heart of Williamsburg
With the party-tossing Verboten gang’s eponymous venue on North 11th Street slated to open soon, it’s official: Williamsburg has become New York’s new clubland paradise. – TIME OUT NEW YORK

Brooklyn-based nightlife entrepreneurs Verboten [German for “forbidden"] have been shaping the NYC clubbing landscape and beyond for over 12 years and are now set to open the doors at their purpose-built venue for nightlife, music and arts in the heart of Williamsburg.
After years of meticulous planning, co-founders Jen Schiffer & John Perez, along with a team of industry veterans and illustrious partners, will further ignite the ongoing Brooklyn renaissance happening in recent years. Verboten parties have already encapsulated the explosive global, underground dance music scene and will continue to host DJ residencies and top-notch musical programming featuring both established and burgeoning talent. The diverse array of upcoming music and arts programming is set to mirror the spirit of Brooklyn and will include live music, art shows, yoga & fitness classes, burlesque performances, and tap into the creative consciousness of NYC.
“We're excited to build a home for ourselves and our team; a multi-functional event space in Brooklyn designed for musicians & artists to fulfill their creative visions. We look forward to celebrating the unique wealth of talent that NYC has to offer for everyone who comes through our doors.”
–Jen Schiffer & John Perez, Verboten Co-Founders
The 750-person capacity venue is a 10,000 square foot former metal manufacturing warehouse, designed by Verboten’s John Perez and architecture firm Latent to be a true home for performers and music fans alike. The design aesthetic spotlights industrial steel and concrete accents that bring Verboten’s dystopian aesthetic to life. Verboten features a one-of-a-kind Martin Audio sound system custom-designed by ITI Audio, innovative ROBE intelligent lighting showcase, panoramic HD video wall, along with video projections and 3D mapping by multimedia designers Waking Dream.
The main Control Room is a large, open event space, centered around a 1,400 square foot sprung wood dance floor [reclaimed from a Thomas Edison factory used to make phonographs], multiple staging areas for live music or DJ performances, and raised modular seating. The adjoining Cabaret Bar is a more intimate, futuristic take on a Weimar-era cabaret, with plush leather banquettes, multiple skylights, steel chandeliers and a small stage with a DJ booth that allows it to be used independently as an intimate event space or in conjunction with the Control Room.
Verboten’s motto, “Nothing is Forbidden,” is seen in its whimsical food & beverage program.  A specialty cocktail menu created by Counting Room alums highlights absinthe, locally made syrups and artisanal sodas, with names taken from dystopian sci-fi novels. These will be paired with a small plates menu in summer 2014, focusing on “forbidden foods” like bacon and foie gras.

Moog Music Announces Synthesizer Residency At Rough Trade NYC During The Month of March
Lauren Flax of CREEP and Chloe Saavedra of Chaos Chaos on Moog synths at Rough Trade NYC
In celebration of Bob Moog's spirit of innovation and creative experimentation, Moog has opened a Synthesizer Residency inside of Rough Trade NYC at 64 N 9th Street in Brooklyn for the month of March.  The installation is free and open to the public from 11am to 11pm daily March 5th through March 29th.

For 25 days in March, Rough Trade NY is housing the world's largest modern Moog installation as a mile-marker on the road to Moogfest, and Moog invites all artists in the area to stop by and utilize the space for experimentation and discovery. The residency serves as a physical manifestation of the intersection of music, art and technology, and it is meant to be used as an artist's resource. Although it is free to the public, this is no museum exhibit- visitors are encouraged to interact, engage and experiment with the analog electronics. All are welcome to craft sound as well as bring a recording device to sample the instruments.
Stephen Godfroy, Co-Owner of Rough Trade, says of the installation “With our shared love of musical experimentation and innovation, Moog are perfect bedfellows for us. Being able to create and host world-class experiences like this is precisely what Rough Trade NYC is all about; is precisely why New York can safely claim to have the most exciting record store on the planet.”

All instruments in the installation were hand built in Asheville, NC at the Moog factory. Throughout the installation, Moog employees will be on hand at Rough Trade NYC to assist artists with the gear.

The installation includes a producers station, drone towers, 10 voice polyphonic analog synth, 6 voice Minimoog drum synth, and over 50 analog effects boxes.

The opening night of the installation was curated by Tom Tom Magazine and included this line-up of NYC's finest female musicians: Lauren FlaxMaria ChavezSuzi AnalogueChloe Saavedra,Shiori TakenoshitaLeah LazonickGabriela JimenoLauren CamaratoMaia Macdonald,Alanna NualaHeidi Garton and FonLin Nyeu.

Sound experiments will continue to take place throughout the duration of the installation with various artists performing, and schedules will be announced shortly. Tom Tom Magazine will continue their curation on March 20th with a performance by Kiran Gandhi of M.I.A. and at a later date Anna Barie of These Are Powers.

One free ticket to Moogfest, the innovative festival taking place in Asheville NC April 23-27, will be given away every day of the installation.

MARC HOULE UNVEILS FUSION POP EP

THE NEW 4 TRACK EP FROM ITEMS & THINGS LABEL HEAD MARC HOULE INCLUDES REMIXES BY NYMA AND FELLOW LABEL BOSS MAGDA

Artist: Marc Houle
Title: Fusion Pop
Cat. Number: IT029
Format: Digital & Physical
Release date: April 24, 2014
Tracklist:
1. (A1) Fusion Pop
2. (A2) Hello Friend
3. (B1) Fusion Pop (Magda’s Lost In Mezcal Mix)
4. (B2) Fusion Pop (NYMA’s Confusion Mix)
After a series of collaborations, Marc Houle presents his first solo EP on Items & Things since 2012 - "Fusion Pop", a four track EP with two original cuts and two remixes: one from Magda, the other from label artist NYMA.

True to Items & Things form, "Fusion Pop" acts as an amalgamation of warped sound - haunting synth lines, jagged bass-lines, eerie vocals and bouncing leads feed the sonic landscape for the 115BPM title track. On the flip, the acid-infused overtones of "Hello Friend" paint an equally eerie scene. As the distorted repetitions of the male vocal mantra drift off into the ether, steady hats hold the reverberating groove: part Carpenter soundtrack, part twisted after-party anthem.

Magda turns the focus of the A-side towards the club, her "Lost in Mezcal Mix" upping the tempo and thickening the groove whilst maintaining the experimentation of the original: an ode to the extremities of the inebriation from which the mix derives its title. NYMA’s "Confusion Mix" fuses elements from both of the originals into his own interpretation, rounding off proceedings with an ode to the two slices of dance floor eccentricity that precede it.
