Planetarium is an immersive hi-fi listening session.

We clear the floor between our custom speakers, so you can bring pillows, blankets, sleeping bags or anything else you like to get comfortable. Lie on the floor, stretch out on the couch, and get lost in music.

Tonight's edition of Planetarium is dedicated to the Golden Voyager Records. In 1977 NASA shot two crafts into space, each one equipped with a pair of golden records. Contained on the records are images and sounds of earth: greetings in 55 languages, whale songs, rumbling engines, and, of course, music – everything from a Gamelan orchestra to Stravinsky to Johnny B. Goode. The hope is that one day, perhaps millions or even billions of years from now, the records will serve as a message to the inhabitants of some distant planet.

This evening, we play reproductions of the golden records in their entirety and try to imagine what it might be like to hear these sounds of earth for the very first time.

Josh Dunn and Justin Carter will play other interstellar music before and after the airing of the golden records.

Drinks and food are available at the bar and kitchen. We have all the creature comforts that you might otherwise need inside so you never have to leave the bubble we’re creating. The event runs from 6pm to 11pm.

An important note: the night works best when everyone keeps their voice down. When you're inside the speakers, remain silent, and when you're outside of the main speaker area, please make sure you’re quiet enough that only the person you’re talking to can hear you.

We’re looking forward to seeing you there.

Indoors at Nowadays is a gathering place with an amazing analog soundsystem and wood dance floor. The room was dreamt up and brought into being by the Mister Saturday Night and Mister Sunday guys.

We're on the border of Bushwick and Ridgewood, and we've got a full bar and kitchen that's open six days a week. We throw parties on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and we do immersive listening sessions called Planetarium on Sundays.

It's always free to come hang except for Fridays and Saturdays after 10pm and Sundays after 6pm. If you're tight on dough but wanna join us, you can buy early bird tickets here on RA, or you can RSVP for reduced or free entry on Fridays and Saturdays at http://nowadays.nyc/rsvp.
